Administrative history/biographical note
Of Scottish origin, John McDougall is established in the area of Three-Rivers about 1833. Ten years later, it is found owner of a grocer located between the streets Of Plato and the River. In 1855, McDougall became mayor of Three-Rivers, function which it occupied until 1857. In 1862, John McDougall became purchaser of the Forging mills of the Saint-Maurice then Forging mills of Islet in 1863. John McGougall was the husband of Margaret Purvis with whom it had eleven children including at least three wire. One, William, practised {the Right [le Droit = law]} while the second, fore-mentioned James, will be association “John McDougall and Sons” with his father and his John brother. Parallel to her lawyer career, William McDougall dealt with policy and, with three recoveries (1868, 1872 and 1874), it was elected appointed Three-Rivers with the House of Commons. As a businessman, it joined George-Baillie Houliston and Ézékiel Hart in a company combining the Right to broking of insurances and the banking transactions. On November 13, 1880, William McDougall was named judge of the higher Court of the district of Ottawa, district of Aylmer. It is besides in the performance of its duties that it died on March 3, 1886. James McDougall, as for him, was a banker then merchant with Three-Rivers.
