WILLIAM FREDERICK HILL, only son of William Hill, Partick, and grandson of the late James Houliston, Glensherrig, Brodick, enlisted in January 1916. A fortnight afterwards he was sent to France, and after fifteen months there was transferred to a Welsh regiment in Aldershot, where he underwent a short training. Returning to France, he was gassed and lost his voice for some time. He was a butcher before enlisting.
