Why do I want to do this?

      Because my wife does! Marling

      Who is Marling?

The oldest of 9 children Marling grew up on Pennsylvania Dutch cooking, milking the cows and graduating to fly airplanes in WWII. He has seen America change in his 82 years and is planning on spending quality time with his wife Louise on this massive road trip.

His children, of whom there were 6, have traveled with him on many of the Pennsylvania to Florida or Pennsylvania to Canada fishing trips wonder if his pace of not stopping along the way will slow down and take time to smell the roses on this trip. Are we there yet?

      When do we eat?
Marling has a sweet tooth and wants to try some new things along the way...everything but squid.

The night before my dad passed away we got to spend about an hour on my laptop exploring some of the places we were going to be walking through in the summer of 2007. He was taken with the beauty of the mountains and lakes and told me about flying over them when he was just a young man in the early days of the US Air Force. He said he imagined they would be a lot nicer to see from the ground and we found several sites that did 360 degree views of different parks we knew we would be walking through.
The next day after my dad had gone my mom said that it was good we had the computer time. She said she felt like he went on the walk that night right in the kitchen at the laptop. It was the first and last time my dad and I ever explored anything online. He wasn't much impressed by computers but loved getting out into nature.
The walk started with my mom as an inspiration and will go forward and finish with my dad's memory as what motivates and inspires up.
We are one team member down but he will always be with us.
