- Thomas was illegitimate.
Parish Records say: Thomas Pyot son of Sarah Pyot single woman from Sandon 11.6.1814
Thomas was baptised 11 June 1814 as Thomas Pyot, to Sarah Pyot, the entry says she was a single woman, so it does look as though Thomas is not Robert's son! The entry also said Sarah lived in Sandon, meaning the Village it's self. It looks as though Robert took him on and he was called Shelley, you could get away with calling children what you liked in those days.
