Notes |
- She was born in about 1889 in or near Harlech, Wales
Her mother, Catherine Thomas, died when she, Laura Ann, was only 2 years old (so 1891). Both mother and child died.
Laura Ann Thomas lived for awhile, after her mother died, on what he called the Merther or Merthyr farm which was abt 6 or 7 miles from Harlech on the top of a nearby mountain which had a plateau on the top. She lived in a big house with some family and remembered the huge oak beams in the house.
She went to school with her husband to be John Williams.
Her family lived right in Harlech where her father Griffith Thomas was a tailor and owned his own shop and had
an apprentice who never cut the mens trousers properly. The family lived in the concil houses. At least for
awhile.
Later she went to London and lived (when the Queen? [maybe King Edward May 1910?] died) near the marble arches. She worked at a Dairy Bar. She could have been in London when King Edward the V11 died in May of 1910 just before she came to Canada.
Laura Thomas lived with the Milne family when she lived in London. They were very kind to her and treated her as one of the family. She left from their place when she came to Canada in 1910
Laura Ann Thomas came to Canada in 1910 and married her betrothed upon arrival. They had been engaged and he, John Williams also from Harlech, Wales, came to Canada a year or so before her. Laura Ann's family lived right in Harlech where her dad owned his own tailor shop.
Laura was engaged to John Williams in Wales. He came to Canada in 1908 and she joined him in 1910. They
were married upon her arrival. They lived for a few years with John's brother Bob on "old 28" in the Bryn Mawr
district in Saskatchewan. They then moved to 30 miles south of Rosetown, Sask and 6 miles from what is now
the Town of Elrose where they homesteaded on NE Section 24, township 25, range 16, West of the 3rd Meridian.
John died in 1918 during the flu epidemic. She hired Andrew Houliston to manage the farm and later they were
married.
Her older brother Dick visited in Canada at one time.
She was the midwife around the district after she came to Canada.
